Saturday
morning, a healthy influx of tourists for breakfast on a bright fresh smelling
day. Off to the grandparents to see the
newborn buffalo. It sure is cute…and
white. I don’t know if the symbolism of
a white buffalo has any significance here but we know it does in North America.
We stuck
around the homestead taking photos of flowers and passersby and then an immense
second breakfast of dal bhat with pumpkin curry. I walked ever so slowly back to room six and
collapsed for a nap that is too brief when one keeps their door open. Well, I am thankful to sleep well when I
do.
Laxman has
gone to Pokhara, Maya sits in the new reception room with a villager, the
painters are painting the wicker chairs, the huge reception desk, wastebaskets,
clothes hangers, and all else that needs touch up and then they will
leave. I don’t know how long the renovation
has taken, perhaps more than six weeks but it is coming to a close. Peace again. Suraksha flits about. She wanted to play Uno (she found the deck
after a week of not playing) but I ignored the poor child who has examinations
tomorrow and puts off studying.
Prior to
2009 I enjoyed traveling the backpacker and when necessary employed way in
India. After staying in reasonably
comfortable accommodations in Calcutta I don’t know if I want to go back and be
the backpacker. The easiest way is KTM
to Delhi and then into Rajasthan somehow, bus, taxi, plane, train. Or it’s a taxi to the border and bus to
Varanasi and then east to Bodh Gaya somehow.
Or flying to Goa via Mumbai. I
hear Air India and Kingfisher are having massive worker problems, which means
more are traveling by other means which means the train is the best bet, as it
usually is.
I’ll need a really good book.
If it is
copy write protected is there anything wrong with listening to the Moody
Blues ‘Days of Future Passed’ album on
youtube? This strangely and sort of
thankfully keeps little kids at three buffalo tails distance. Maya returns from a nice shower for
sure. At 4pm Suraksha said she’d be
going to the library house to prepare for the examination. We will see.
The building is on the road to Laxman’s parent’s home. Last year the Sarangkot Tourism Committee had
their ceremonies for new president and new members. Laxman was named president and I was given a
lifetime membership primarily for helping them repair the steps to the view top
and build another way, across from Dan’s white elephant .
Well, I sure
got crazy on facebook this afternoon, eh?
Ha, well, a white buffalo is born, a coldplay song, a sharing of Jesus
and Barak, and ho hum, trees and the tip of Machapuchere.
And will
there be any response? Ya know sometimes
I want to kick a few heads. People are
bored and believe not.
What I haven’t
mentioned and probably should now in case I forget but ten hours later, at
midnight, another buffalo gave birth to a black calf, right across the dirt
road.
I do not know if there is any significance
here at all, I mean a black calf and a white calf born across from each other
ten hours apart.
